Discover what’s blooming In The Garden this autumn.

A few drought tolerant plants we include in our autumn landscape design rotation: Acacia Low Boys (Acacia redolens), Clevelandii Sage (Salvia clevelandii), Foxtail Agave (Agave attenuata), California Lilac (Ceanothus griseus) & Canyon Prince Wild Rye (Leymus condensatus).

LANDSCAPING TIPS / PREPPING FOR RAINY SEASON:
  • Consider switching from sprinkler to drip system or adjust your current watering schedule to avoid over watering.
  • Before the rains, amend your soil with organic matter like compost to improve soil health and allow water to flow thoroughly.
  • Check and clear out debris from gutters and downspouts. While LA doesn't get constant rainfall, a rain barrel connected to your downspouts can help collect and store rainwater for drier months. It’s a sustainable way to water plants when there’s little to no rainfall during the summer and fall.
  • Fall is the perfect time to plant California natives and drought-tolerant plants. Some favorites include: California poppies & wildflower seeds, sage, varieties of succulents & lavender. These plants are well adapted to the periodic rain in LA and require less water.
  • Prune any overgrown or dead branches, stems and flowers. This will help promote successful Spring plant growth. Don't forget to fertilize using our favorite plant food!
